Accuracy
It is well established that the concentration of alcohol in saliva is almost equal to that in blood. The relationship between the amount of saliva alcohol and blood alcohol is 1:1 while with breath it is 0.000048:1, making saliva a more sensitive testing than breath testing method.
Sample Collection
1. Nothing should be placed into the mouth of the subject for at least 10 minutes prior to saliva collection, includes food, drink, tobacco products or other material.
2. Saliva can be collected in a sputum cup or a clean container, or directly applied to the reaction pad of the test strip.
Test Procedure
1. Take out the strip and lay it on a flat surface.
2. Saturate the reactive pad by dipping the reaction pad into the saliva specimen collected in a sputum cup, or by applying saliva directly to the reaction pad.
3. Compare the reactive pad with the provided colored chart at 2 minutes.
Read the results
Positive: a distinct color developed all over the pad, which indicates that the alcohol concentration is 0.02% or higher.
Negative: almost no color change, which indicated that the alcohol concentration is less than 0.02%.
